Mela and Joyce Sweep MAC Commonwealth Weekly Awards

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Albright women’s lacrosse freshman Devon Mela and senior Hayley Joyce each won a MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week award to give the Lions a sweep of the weekly honors.

Mela earned Offensive Player of the Week while Joyce was selected as Defensive Player of the Week for the period of April 10-16.

Mela led the Lions to a 17-7 win over conference Hood with seven points on five goals, including the game-winner, and two assists. Mela also tallied four ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls. More impressively, the freshman only recorded five shots in the game, all for goals. She had a hat trick with 12:03 left in the first half after scoring her first two goals of the game in just 38 seconds.

Joyce earns her second-straight conference weekly award, and her third of the season. Joyce made seven saves on 15 shots, while allowing just six goals in 57 minutes of action in the win over Hood. She finished the game with a .538 save percentage. The senior has allowed less than 10 goals in each of the last three games.

The women’s lacrosse team hosts Stevenson on Wednesday, April 19 at 7 p.m.
