Opening Reception

April 28, 5:30-7:30pm

In the library, quietly sitting with our thoughts, we are reminded of one of our most important assets: our imagination. Mark Twain said “In a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them.” The library is a potent place symbolically, visually, and mentally. Rows of books; their titles, colors, textures, shapes and words create their own random poetry. It is a melodic collage. With the discussion that books are going to disappear into the electronic abyss in the coming years, we feel the need to honor the object and its author. Libraries are an essential part of our history. Books and paintings give us the freedom to fly; to imagine the previously unimaginable.

Jane Runyeon received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati. She is a professional artist, curator, educator, activist for the arts, and lecturer for the past 30 years. Jane is the owner of All2art and served on the original planning board for Goggleworks. ” The Library Series came to be because of my love for reading and READING. Knowledge is freedom.”

Jenny Pakradooni lives in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, in Lancaster, PA. The daughter of a librarian, her bibliolatrous existence was burst wide open the day she learned from Anne Fadiman that “a book’s words were holy, but the paper…and ink that contained them were a mere vessel,” and she began making art out of books.
