Royals Announce 2017-18 ECHL Regular Season Schedule

Season Seventeen of Professional Hockey In Reading Kicks Off At Santander Arena Against Adirondack Thunder on Saturday, October 21

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced the team’s 2017-18 Regular Season Schedule. The Royals open the seventeenth season of pro hockey in Reading on home ice for the second consecutive season and fifth time in team history when the Adirondack Thunder travel to Santander Arena on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The seventy-two game regular season closes on April 7, 2018, when the Royals complete the back-end of a home-and-home with the Norfolk Admirals in Reading.

The Royals 2017-18 regular season schedule is set out in full below.

Reading kicks off the season with three in a row on home ice before heading out on a five game road trip that will take the Royals to Worcester, Massachusetts, for the first time in team history for three in a row against the Worcester Railers before the team heads south for a pair against the perennial powerhouse South Carolina Stingrays. The Royals then return to Santander Arena for one of only four home games in November when the team will take on the Jacksonville Icemen for the first time in team history at Santander Arena on Saturday, November 11.

The Icemen are one of seven teams outside of the North Division that the Royals will play next season, a list that also includes the Cincinnati Cyclones, Fort Wayne Komets, Norfolk Admirals, Orlando Solar Bears, South Carolina Stingrays, and Toledo Walleye.

If familiarity breeds contempt, the Royals ought to have plenty of animosity built up within the North, particularly against Adirondack and Worcester—both of whom play Reading fourteen times during the regular season. The Railers play eight times at Santander Arena, which would include their Santander Arena debut on Thursday, December 28. Fifty-seven of the Royals’ games next season will be played within the Division with eleven against the Wheeling Nailers and nine against both the Brampton Beast and Manchester Monarchs rounding out the play up North.

Twenty-seven of Reading’s thirty-six home games next year will be on the weekends or holidays led by the eleven to be played on Saturday nights at Santander Arena. The Royals have a season-long five game home stand in early to mid-January and three other four game stints of consecutive games at home including a four game series during the Christmas Holidays, when Manchester, Worcester and Adirondack will come to town. Six of the Royals’ final eight regular season games are also on home ice.

The longest road trip of the year for Reading extends for eight games from late February through mid-March and will feature a three-game Florida swing that will take the Royals to Jacksonville for the first time in team history, as well as the Amway Center in Orlando. The farthest North Reading will go next season is Brampton, Ontario, where the Royals will face the Beast four times, including one of two road morning games for the team next season—a 10:00 am start on Thursday, March 8, at Powerade Centre.

Next season, Reading’s Monday through Saturday games on home ice will once again start at 7:00 pm, while the puck will hit the ice on the opening faceoff for all Sunday games next year at Santander Arena at 4:00 pm.

The Royals 2017-18 ECHL Regular Season Schedule is set out below. Please note that all game dates and times are subject to change.
