Olivet Boys & Girls Club Celebrates 120th Anniversary in 2018

READING, PA – This year, the Olivet Boys & Girls Club will celebrate their 120-year anniversary.  What began as “a simple gesture” by a wealthy man; when William McCormick saw a group of boys loitering, now benefits over three thousand members in fourteen clubs throughout the city of Reading, Berks County and neighboring areas. Olivet Boys & Girls Club enables all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as healthy, productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The Clubs provide a safe environment with programs that encourage character development, education, life skills and exposure to arts and culture. Such exposure allows kids to see their way out of poverty and become productive, outstanding members of society.

This year’s celebrations include fun updates while celebrating Olivet’s traditions; including a refresh to the annual Steak & Burger Dinner (cheese steaks anyone?).  This lighter and fun filled event will also celebrate the ever-popular FUNdraising campaign known as Kiss-A-Pig where local celebrities in the community compete to support Olivet kids.

The Club’s goals are to mobilize our communities to reverse negative trends facing our youth, inspire and empower the next generation to be healthy, successful and engaged leaders, and serve more members, more often to help more kids on their path to a Great Future.
