Alvernia Announces Halligan-Rostek to Lead Spirit Team

(July 6, 2018) – Alvernia University Director of Athletics Bill Stiles announced on Friday the appointment of April Halligan-Rostek as the head coach of the newly formed Spirit Team.

The Spirit Team will be a combination of the dance and cheerleading teams, and will oversee the appearances of the Golden Wolves’ mascot.

Halligan-Rostek comes to the position following five years as Alvernia’s Dance Team head coach.

“April has proven to be successful as the coach of our Dance Team,” said Stiles. “She is a great fit to lead the previously separate groups of Dance and Cheer, and will help us take advantage of our opportunities with the mascot. We are excited for this new program, and are confident April will take it to great heights.”

Halligan-Rostek is a 2006 graduate of West Chester University, where she earned a Bachelors in Elementary Education with a minor in Dance. She received her Masters of Education and Principal Certification from Cabrini in 2010, and is currently working towards her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Leadership and Superintendent’s Letter from Alvernia.

In addition to leading the team, Halligan-Rostek is also the principal at the Reading School District’s Millmont Elementary School.

“After being given the opportunity to coach the Alvernia University Dance Team for the last five years and provide competitive collegiate opportunities for those young women, I am very much looking forward to creating a similar dynamic for the entire Spirit Program,” said Halligan-Rostek. “There is a huge amount of growth on the horizon as an athlete at Alvernia University, and as a member of the coaching staff. I am excited to contribute to the positive direction we are heading into for Dance, Cheer, and our Golden Wolves mascot!”

The Spirit Team will begin activities with the upcoming fall athletic season.
