New Economic Sustainability Program at Safe Berks

Angie Gilmour was recently chosen to serve as the first Economic Sustainability Advocate at Safe Berks.

This video, created by our partner, Riverfront Federal Credit Union, describes the new Economic Sustainability Program at Safe Berks. The program utilizes the Allstate Financial Curriculum, and provides education focusing on economic sustainability, budgeting, and credit repair.

Many victims of domestic violence and sexual assault suffer from multiple forms of abuse, including financial abuse. Like other forms of abuse, the goal is to gain power and control. Financial abuse can include preventing access to money or financial resources, controlling how money is spent, not allowing a partner to work or earn money, or stealing a person’s identity, money, credit or property.

This new Economic Sustainability Program will help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault recover from financial abuse and move toward financial health and self-sufficiency. The program will also connect clients with employment resources, such as assistance with resume preparation and interviewing skills, as well as trauma-informed counseling.
