PHFA Rent Relief Program modified, extended to encourage broader participation

Reading, PA — The Redevelopment Authority of Berks County is encouraging residents in need of rental assistance to apply for the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency’s CARES Rent Relief Program. There have been several revisions to the program, which is administered through the Redevelopment Authority, to allow more homeowners, renters, landlords and lenders to participate. The deadline for applications has also been extended to Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The main modification to the program is that landlords may now work with renters to arrange payment for any monthly rent still owed above the $750 financial assistance from PHFA. The goal of this change is to encourage more landlords to participate in the program.

Applications can be found online at www.phfa.org/pacares. The application must be downloaded, completed and then returned by email to [email protected] or mailed to 606 Court Street, 3rd Floor, Reading, PA, 19601. The application must be accompanied by the required documents indicated on this checklist.
The deadline to submit all required documentation is by the end of the day on Nov. 4. Any questions regarding the program can be directed to the Redevelopment Authority by calling 610-478-6325.
