Berks County Emergency Rental Assistance Program Sets Oct. 4 Deadline for New Applications

After roughly seven months in operation, the Berks County Emergency Rental Assistance Program will stop processing new applications next week. New applications will be accepted up until 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 4. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program office will continue to work with clients, and their associated landlords, who have submitted applications by the deadline.

Any applications that are submitted after the Oct. 4 deadline but before Oct. 18 will be placed on a waitlist. Applications received after Oct. 18 will not be accepted.

The Berks County Emergency Rental Assistance Program is a joint effort between the Berks County Redevelopment Authority and Berks Coalition to End Homelessness that launched in March 2021. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program was designed to ensure housing stability by providing rental and utility payments to landlords and utility companies to keep residents in their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, applications were only going to be accepted until August 30, but the deadline was extended.

Tenants who have already submitted an application and have questions can contact their assigned reviewer for assistance. Applicants can also check the status of their application with their case ID number here: www.bceh.org/berks-county-emergency-rental-assistanceprogram-application/

Applicants are asked to remain patient due to the high volume of applications and the limited capacity of the Coalition’s staff. If you have questions about the program or the application deadline, please contact the Berks Coalition to End Homelessness at 610-372-7222.
