Berks Women2Women to Host Evening of Empowerment

Join Berks Women2Women (W2W), a special program of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance (GRCA), for its annual Evening of Empowerment. The inspirational development and networking event will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Ballroom, Reading.

Marissa Orr

W2W will welcome keynote speaker Marissa Orr, bestselling author of “Lean Out: The Truth About Women, Power, & the Workplace,” to share her journey as a single mom trying to carve out success at the world’s top tech giants. Attendees will get an insider’s look at the systemic dysfunction inside today’s most progressive organizations, providing a new perspective on why there are so few female leaders in corporate America. Orr’s book not only provides a retort to Sheryl Sandberg’s “Lean In,” but also a revolutionary path forward with the power to change the lives of men and women in the corporate world and beyond.

“We are excited to hear from Marissa and her fresh take on women in the workplace. We are always talking about leaning in, which we still find very valuable as a leadership tool from our current Lean In Circles, but we understand there are other ways to lead, other aspects of the workplace that go undiscussed, and other ways you can develop into who and what you want to be. As Marissa said herself, ‘Lean Out doesn’t mean quit your job, reduce your ambition, or lower your standards. It means leaning out of anyone else’s story of who you should be, what your career looks like, or how you measure success. Leaning out means rejecting dogma and rhetoric and defining success on your own terms,’” said Rachael Romig, Senior Director of Events & Special Programs, GRCA.

The first 150 registrants will receive a copy of Orr’s book. Prior to the keynote speech, guests may enjoy hors d’oeuvres provided by GRCA member, Catering by John Lowe, as well as a hot buttered rum station and champagne bar.
