Berks History Center Honors Reading’s 275th Anniversary

Berks History Center (BHC) is excited to honor the City of Reading’s 275th Anniversary by offering special exhibit features and programming inside its Historical Society Museum located at 940 Centre Ave., Reading, Pa., 19601.

For a limited time, the BHC will highlight objects and stories from Reading’s founding throughout each of its three levels of museum exhibits. Community members can learn about the city’s people of yesterday and today, its rich arts and industrial history, and so much more.

Visitors should be on the lookout for Reading 275 ID buttons amongst the museum’s “unchanged” displays. They represent objects that were either made in Reading, or belonged to someone who called the city their home.

“Reading Pennsylvania holds a unique and deep-rooted history worth celebrating. From its first inhabitants and earliest settlers, through to the richly diverse population of today, the Berks History Center is lucky to be able to preserve and display countless objects that help share those stories with the public,” said BHC Museum Curator, Amber Vroman. “I am excited for our visitors to explore the museum over the next several months, as new Reading-related objects, artwork, photographs, and their corresponding stories are consistently added to our three floors of exhibits!”

Community members interested in viewing this limited-time display of Reading 275 items can do so by visiting the BHC Historical Museum during their hours of operation, Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition, BHC will be offering special Reading 275 geared programming. On Thursday, September 14, 2023, and Saturday, November 11, 2023, Vroman will lead a special Printmaking Workshop where participants will carve and hand print a design inspired by the Reading Pagoda, the city’s most cherished and iconic landmark.
