Alon Tal Headlines 2023 Leo Camp Lecture at Albright College

“Will the environment survive a renewed Middle East peace process?” is the topic for the 43rd annual Leo Camp memorial lecture at Albright College on Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks, the 2023 event in Albright’s McMillan Student Center, south lounge is free and open to the public. Speaker Alon Tal, Ph.D., will be introduced by Brian Chartock, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks.

Presenter Alon Tal is a professor and environmentalist who believes that ecology is a uniting force that could bridge differences among the people of the Middle East. He returns to Berks County, where he completed doctoral research about surface water contamination from agriculture. Tal is a visiting professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Tal was a member of Israel’s parliament from 2021-2022 and served as chair of the subcommittee for Environmental and Climate Impacts on Health. Previously, he was the chair of the Department of Public Policy at Tel Aviv University. Tal has held faculty appointments at Ben Gurion, Hebrew, Michigan State, Stanford, Otago, and Harvard Universities. He has founded several environmental organizations, including the Israel Union for Environmental Defense and Arava Institute Zafuf, the Israel Forum for Population, Environment and Society. Between 2010 and 2013, Tal served as chair of Israel’s Green Party — the Green Movement.

The Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks is the planning, coordinating, and fundraising arm of the local Jewish community. The federation raises and allocates funds in support of many vital national and international Jewish organizations. The organization also publishes Jewish media, hosts leadership programs, and trips to Israel.
