West Lawn United Methodist Church Partners With Help Build Hope to Construct Berks County House

West Lawn United Methodist Church is partnering with Help Build Hope to build house frame walls by building partnerships, building relationships, building community, and building homes through hosting a local mission project in its parking lot on Oct. 13-14.

During this mission-focused event, members of West Lawn UMC will build the frame structures for a small house that will then be given to a Berks County family in need to achieve affordable home ownership. The walls built will provide a way to reduce the costs for Habitat for Humanity and Fuller Centers for Housing and allow them to finish the homes faster.

Over 100 volunteers in the congregation, ranging in age from five years to senior citizens, will work on this project over the course of the two days. The Help Build Hope staff provides the structure that enables the West Lawn participants to have a fulfilling time of service through team building. The work site will be in the West Lawn UMC parking lot, located on the corner of Woodside Avenue and Noble Street, next to the West Lawn Community Playground. On Friday, Oct. 13, starting at 5:30 p.m., the teams will cut the lumber and stage the work areas. On Saturday, Oct. 14, between 8:30-11:30 a.m., crews will construct the walls and stand the house. The house will then be disassembled, and the walls will be loaded onto a truck and delivered to the final build site.

Help Build Hope is a program of Crossroads Missions. Since 1999, the Help Build Hope program has produced over 1,300 homes. For more details, visit https://www.helpbuildhope.com/.
