One of Zuber Realty’s annual community outreach activities during the Christmas season is participation in the Toys for Tots campaign that began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, and a group of marine reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The idea came from Bill’s wife, Diane.
Recently, Paula Babb, Zuber Realty’s administrative assistant with the company’s Royersford location, was surprised and delighted to receive several large hauls of boxes and bags of toys from two individuals: Nancy Sillitti and Tracy Cornell.
Paula reports that she was surprised when Nancy Sillitti backed her car up to the front door of the Royersford office, opened her trunk, and began unloading boxes of toys. Paula recalls, “When she started to take photos, I went out to meet her. She said she was with Community Improvement Club of Collegeville, a community organization that collects toys and has been in operation for over 100 years.”
“She wanted to make sure that it was understood that she did not do this alone, that she was just the one who was able to deliver them. She also stayed to sort them to make it easier for the donation site get them to the right gender and age.”
“Later that day, another individual—Tracy Cornell—also dropped off bags of toys that she was donating as an individual. She said her children are all grown and she really likes to give back. It brings her joy to give to those less fortunate. We thank Tracy, the organization, and the individuals involved for their uncommon generosity.”
Each year, the agency collects toys at its corporate office (210 E. Philadelphia Ave., Boyertown), and at its satellite location in Royersford (384 N. Lewis Road, Royersford). This year’s campaign began Nov. 1 and will continue through Dec. 7. Toys and donations will be delivered to the Boyertown Salvation Army to distribute to the area’s children.
