Today, the Board of Directors of Opportunity House, in collaboration with the Board of Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading & Berks County (BGC), announced the appointment of Modesto Fiume as its interim CEO. This appointment became necessary given the recent departure of the Club’s former CEO.

In this role as interim CEO, Fiume will be responsible for leading and guiding all aspects of the Club’s critical functions while the official search begins for the next CEO of Olivet BGC. Fiume will be joined by Dori Bornstein, Opportunity House’s Chief People & Culture Officer, and Alyssa Bushkie, Chief Operating Officer, in oversight of day-to-day operations at Olivet BGC, all while continuing to maintain their respective roles at Opportunity House.

Tammy White, President of United Way of Berks County, stated, “Modesto and his team have the experience of leading the successful operations of Opportunity House for years. His team will provide the strategic direction to Olivet’s in the short term as a thorough search for a new CEO takes place. They will work closely with the dedicated Olivet BGC staff to focus on the kids and families who count on club services: 3,000 kids annually.”

Fiume commented, “I applaud Opportunity House’s Board for its vision and proactiveness in approving this short-term strategy to allow Alyssa, Dori, and myself to serve the staff, children, and families of Olivet’s BGC to ensure the services they need continue to be there. I have complete confidence in the staff at Opportunity House, who will be assisting us to ensure our focus there continues to remain strong as well. While we know change can sometimes feel uncertain, I want to thank the current staff of Olivet BGC for their commitment and dedication to our kids. Together, we will build an even brighter future for the kids.”

The term of this joint commitment is projected to be six months or as soon as a permanent CEO has been hired for Olivet’s BGC. A search committee is being formed immediately to begin this search process.
