Reading Public Library Receives Summer Learning Resources Grant

Reading, Pa – Reading Public Library has been named one of 20 libraries in the nation to receive a 2018 Summer Learning Resources Grant from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA).   YALSA is a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The grant’s purpose is to provide libraries with funds to purchase literacy resources that will strengthen and expand the impact of the library’s summer learning program towards teens most vulnerable to summer learning loss, including teens in socio-economically challenged communities.

Ashly Roman, Supervisor of Teen Services, applied for the grant to support a series of summer writing workshops that will help teens brush up on writing skills in a fun, engaging way.  Each month, teens will have the opportunity to learn from professionals during these interactive workshops.  They will cover topics including poetry, writing inspiration, and fundamentals of illustration and story technique. Starting in June, learn more about Summer@RPL on our website: www.readingpubliclibrary.org

Each grant of $1,000 is made possible through sponsorship from The Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
