Albright to Host Free “Invisible” Film Screenings

Albright College is pleased to announce the screening of “Invisible, Gay Women in Southern Music” (2021, 1:47 min.) written and directed by T.J. Parsell for two free showings on Wednesday and Thursday, March 1-2, 7-9 p.m., Klein Lecture Hall (CFA 235). Both evenings will feature a short response by faculty at the end of the screening, and both evenings are Experience events for students, with both being free and open to the public.

Growing up gay in the south is hard enough, but to be an openly gay women in country music is nearly impossible. Yet this group of powerful gay women persevered anyhow.

Writer/director T.J. Parsell takes us behind the scenes of the country music industry and will join us in-person on Friday, March 3 for a talkback Q&A about his film as part of Empowering Albright Voices.

The documentary premiered at Framework in 2021 and has been on the festival circuit the past year where it picked up 11 awards for best documentary film. Co-sponsored by the CFA, Music department, Sociology department, With support from Women & Gender Studies, PRIDE+ and the LGBT Center of Greater Reading. Funding for this project was also provided by and gratefully received from the endowment for the Ellen S. Hurwitz Presidential Lecture Series on Faith, Reason and Imagination in the Liberal Arts.
