Berks Alliance to Spotlight Creative Early Childhood Education Initiatives

Berks Alliance will spotlight Creative Early Childhood Education Initiatives in a community forum on Thursday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m.

Accessing care for their children can be a two-generation challenge for many families. Access to childcare can affect a parent’s ability to find and retain a job. Employers have found that it can be an inhibiting factor in recruiting and retaining employees, particularly in a challenging job market. There is clear evidence that early childhood education provides children with the tools that they need to succeed in school. Employers can also play a role in helping to address this challenge.

Join us to learn more about the resources that are available for parents, families, and employers to address these challenges. We will be joined by presenters from the Pennsylvania Key and the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment Commission (PA ELIC).

The Pennsylvania Key is a collaborative effort to support early childhood education and enhance early learning experiences for children. It is a partner with the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is managed by the Berks County Intermediate Unit. (https://www.pakeys.org/).

The Early Learning Investment Commission is comprised of over 50 senior-level business leaders appointed by the Governor to advance public-private investments in early learning across the Commonwealth. (www.paearlylearning.com).

Representing the PA ELIC will be representatives from the York Economic Alliance, who will speak about how and why childcare was included in their county economic action plan, and Brad Hall, former President of UGI Energy Services, who is a member of the PA ELIC. Brad will speak about a program here in Berks County focused on a training program initiative for early childcare workers.
