Popovsky Performing Arts Studio in Lancaster has been providing Music TogetherⓇ classes for children birth through kindergarten and their parents or caregivers for over 13 years and is pleased to expand its offerings to the Berks County community. Classes take place at Calvary United Church of Christ in Reading, at 640 Centre Ave. Currently, class is offered on Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. with plans to grow additional class times going into the late fall and winter.

In a Music TogetherⓇ class, children and their parents or caregivers (nanny, babysitter, grandparent, etc.) meet weekly for 45 minutes over 10 weeks to experience songs, chants, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions. Both adults and children sit in the circle and participate, led by a trained teacher with early childhood and music expertise. The teacher helps adults understand how to participate and the importance of engaging musically with their children to support music development. All families registered in the class receive an illustrated songbook and an access code to download the music used during the session to continue the fun at home. Each session includes a new collection of songs featuring music in different languages, tonalities, and meters to expose children to a wide variety of music.

Founded in 1987, Music TogetherⓇ is a research-based early childhood music education program developed by founder Ken Guilmartin and Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz, a national authority on early childhood music. Music TogetherⓇ is a music and movement approach to early childhood that develops every child’s opportunity for basic music competence by encouraging music experience rather than learning of information about music.

Spaces are still available for families to join in the fall session of Music TogetherⓇ at Popovsky Performing Arts in Reading.
