Local Realtors® Association Marks 100th Anniversary

The Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS® (R-BAR) marked its 100th anniversary on March 15th, 2022.

R-BAR received its charter from the National Association of REALTORS® on March 15th, 1922, exactly 100 years ago to the day, as the Reading Real Estate Board. Wayne K. Leinbach served as the association’s first President. The association’s name changed in 1972 to the Greater Reading Board of Realtors®, and again in 1993 to the Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS® to reflect the growing footprint of the association and its membership. Today, R-BAR represents more than 1,200 real estate professionals and affiliated businesses in and around Berks County.

“It is an honor to be the 2022 President of the Reading-Berks Association of Realtors® as we celebrate a century of service,” remarked Jason Burkholder, associate broker at Welcome Home Real Estate.

In recognition of this milestone, the County of Berks officially proclaimed March 15th, 2022 as Reading-Berks Association of Realtors Day in Berks County. “R-BAR is one of the most active and engaged associations in our region,” Commissioner Christian Leinbach stated. “They help make Berks County even better.”

In the City of Reading, Mayor Eddie Moran presented R-BAR with a commendation in recognition of its 100th year, which read: “The celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Reading-Berks Association of Realtors, Inc. is a celebration of the legacy of public service created and cultivated by dedicated real estate professionals over the past century.”

R-BAR continues its mission to promote a high standard of professionalism, advocate for private property rights and strive to improve the quality of life in our communities. REALTOR® is a federally registered collective membership mark which identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the national, state, and local association of REALTORS® and subscribes to a strict Code of Ethics.

“We greatly appreciate the kind words of Commissioner Leinbach and Mayor Moran,” added Burkholder. “Our leadership team will continue to raise the professionalism of our industry, uphold the Realtor® Code of Ethics, and ensure that our Realtors® continue to serve the best interests of property owners and aspiring property owners for the next 100 years!”
