Muhlenberg Township Commissioners, Reading City Council President, Berks History Center, and Berks County’s Oldest Architectural Firm Collaborate on Muhlenberg Township – The Family Behind the Name Program
The public is invited to register and attend a free local history presentation, Muhlenberg Township – The Family Behind the Name, on Friday, February 10 from 5:30 – 7 pm featuring a presentation by Bradley Smith, Archivist of the Berks History Center.
This informative family-friendly community event is suitable for local history lovers and all who are curious about the Muhlenberg family and their legacy of influence in our area. Complimentary snacks and beverages will be provided.
Mr. Smith will discuss the impact and legacy of the Muhlenberg family, from their 1742 arrival to Pennsylvania to the present day, and how they influenced the naming of Muhlenberg Township.
The event will begin with welcomes from Muhlenberg Township Commissioners Steve Wolfinger, Board Liaison for Parks, Recreation and Arts, and MTA, and Kevin Lerch, Vice President, Board Liaison to Engineering, Planning and Codes.
Additional remarks will be provided by Donna Reed, City Council President, City of Reading. Ms. Reed grew up in Muhlenberg Township on her family farm and is a graduate of Muhlenberg Township High School. She is also a Trustee of the Berks History Center.
Following the presentation, guests can view a display from Muhlenberg Greene Architects’ archives of Fred Muhlenberg’s local landmark architectural renderings in the Muhlenberg Art Gallery located in the Township Building. Note card sets of Muhlenberg’s historic architectural renderings will be on sale for $20 plus tax via cash or PayPal, benefitting Berks History Center.
