Olivet Boys & Girls Clubs of Reading and Berks County is teaming up with Alvernia University Women’s Wrestling Program to offer a free try-it clinic at the Clinton Street Club site (677 Clinton St., Reading) this Saturday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This clinic is open to any girl or boy of 6 to 18 years of age who would like to try wrestling.
“We are so appreciative of Coach Cindy Calixto and the Alvernia University Women’s Wrestling Team for offering to partner with us to provide this free clinic to kids who never experienced a wrestling program and would like to try it. Wrestling has many educational, physical, and mental health benefits for so many kids across Pennsylvania, and we are happy to offer this program,” said Chris Winters, President and CEO.
“Entering our second season of competition this week, we felt this was an opportunity to work with the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, who have a rich history of wrestling in their Club, to offer a free beginner-level clinic at the Clinton site this weekend,” said Coach Cindy Calixto, Head Women’s Wrestling Coach, Alvernia University.
The clinic will begin at 11 a.m., and kids should arrive at 10:45 a.m., dressed in athletic wear and sneakers. Lunch will be provided to the children, and the program will end at 4 p.m. Coach Calixto will be running the clinic with the support of other wrestling coaches and female and male wrestling athletes.
Winters said, “I have first-hand witnessed the positive impact the sport of wrestling has had on young women and men, developing them into leaders and trailblazers in our community, such as Coach Cindy and her team. It is an honor to collaborate with Coach Calixto to provide this opportunity to our community.”
