RSO to Perform Ravel’s Famous Boléro with Trumpet Soloist, Philippe Schartz

Section Principal Trumpet at BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Philippe Schartz, to perform Boléro with the Reading Symphony Orchestra on March 12, 2022, at the Santander Performing Arts Center.

Reading Symphony Orchestra’s March 12, 2022, concert “Boléro” will feature guest soloist Philippe Schartz on trumpet. Schartz, Principal Trumpet at the BBC National Orchestra of Wales is the first Continental* European to hold a Principal Trumpet chair in the United Kingdom this and last century.

Performing Maurice Ravel’s most famous composition, Boléro, this one-movement orchestral work is known for beginning softly, gradually building to a powerful ending. This riveting performance is sure to have the RSO audience on the edge of their seats.

Contributing to its popularity, Ravel’s composition has been featured in contemporary culture over the years. The piece was prominently featured in the romantic comedy 10, costarring Dudley Moore and Bo Derek. Boléro has also been heard several times at the Olympics, most recently at the torch-lighting ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo games.

Conducted by Reading Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director, Andrew Constantine the March 12, 2022, performance will feature Suppe’s Light Cavalry Overture, Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto, Debussy’s La Mer, and Ravel’s Boléro.

About Reading Symphony Orchestra

Since 1913, the Reading Symphony Orchestra has been providing uninterrupted access to exceptional classical music to the citizens of Berks County and beyond.
