Second Saturday Veteran’s Program

Berks County historian Barry Kauffman will be the presenter at the Wyomissing Public Library on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1PM for the library’s monthly Second Saturday Veterans’ Program.Kauffman, who has written several articles for the Historical Review of Berks County, the quarterly publication of the Berks History Center, is a Trustee of the Berks History Center, Executive Director of The Society for the Preservation of the Gruber Wagon Works, and Past President of the Governor Joseph Hiester Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.The library program will focus on four young women from Berks County – Eleanor Cassidy, Marie Hidell, Mary Scheirer and Mary Catherine Stevens – who volunteered to serve their county as nurses during World War I. In addition to talking about the lives of the four women, Kauffman will discuss how he discovered them and learned their stories.Representatives of the Berks County Veterans Office will be available after the program to provide information about their services and answer questions.The program is free and open to the public.
