Three Lions Named to Winter/Spring Academic All-MAC Teams

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior women’s basketball player Alysha Lofton, junior men’s golf player Ben Foreman and sophomore women’s tennis player Mara Trifoi were named to the Winter/Spring Academic All-MAC teams, announced this week by the Middle Atlantic Conference.

“These recipients represent the true meaning of a student-athlete,” said MAC Executive Director Ken Andrews. “This is one of the top conference awards we give out each season. It honors our student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the playing field.”

The Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field during the 2018 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic success and athletic success.

Lofton posted a 3.34 GPA while majoring in international business. She became the second player in program history to earn WBCA All-American honors, while also picking up D3hoops.com All-Middle Atlantic Region honors as well. In addition, Lofton was named MAC Commonwealth Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, while helping lead the Lions to their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. She also found herself in the top 10 in five major statistical categories in the conference as well. Lofton led the conference with 2.7 steals per game, ranked fourth with 14.4 points per game and 1.6 blocks per game in addition to placing fifth with 3.7 assists per game, and seventh with 7.6 rebounds per game.

Foreman was one of five Lion winter/spring sport student-athletes to earn a 4.0 for the spring semester as he majors in marketing. He earned All-MAC honors for the first time in his collegiate career at MAC Championships back in April when he finished tied for eighth overall to be named to the All-MAC Second Team. Foreman posted a scoring average of 84.4 strokes while playing in seven events during the season. He had a season-best 74 at the LVC Dutchmen Fall Invitational in September which tied him for fifth overall on the day.

Trifoi earned MAC All-Academic honors for the second straight season behind earning a 4.0 GPA in biology for the semester. She repeated as MAC Commonwealth Women’s Tennis Player of the Year behind a 14-3 overall record, and another perfect 6-0 record in MAC Commonwealth play out of the No. 1 spot. Trifoi went 12-2 in dual matches and made it back to the MAC Tournament Semifinals for the second straight year. She was named MAC Commonwealth women’s tennis player of the week for September 25th, and closed the season in the spring with seven straight singles wins.
