Four Fightins Named to Eastern League All-Star Game

Four Reading Fightin Phils players have been selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game in Trenton, New Jersey on July 11th, the Eastern League announced on June 29.  Infielder Zach Green, catcher Deivi Grullon, outfielder Jan Hernandez and pitcher Edgar Garcia will represent the Fightin Phils in the mid-summer classic for the Eastern Division squad. 

Infielder Zach Green has been a consistent contributor for the Fightin Phils in his second season at the AA level.  Green is hitting .290 through 67 games with 18 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs (T-2nd in EL) and 46 runs batted in.  The 24-year old has 39 runs scored an on-base percentage of .372.  He’s currently second in the Eastern League with 34 extra base hits and fourth in the Eastern League with a .563 slugging percentage.  He was just named Eastern League Player of the Week by hitting .417 (10-for-24) with three doubles, one triple, five home runs, 13 runs batted in, eight runs scored and four walks in seven games this past week. 

Catcher Deivi Grullon has produced very well at the plate for the Fightin Phils this season.  The backstop is currently hitting .274 through 48 games with six doubles, 11 home runs and 31 runs batted in. 

Joining Green and Grullon is outfielder Jan Hernandez.  Hernandez is hitting .286 through 63 games with ten doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 35 runs batted in.  He has 35 runs scored and has stolen five bases this season.

Fightin Phils relief pitcher Edgar Garcia is the lone pitcher from the pitching staff selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game.  Garcia is currently 5-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 28 appearances and has converted five saves in seven chances.  He has struck out 42 batters in 38 innings pitched and has recorded a batting average against of .176.
