MAC Announces Update on Fall 2020 Season

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) President’s Council met on Thursday to discuss athletics for the fall of 2020 and has made the following statement.

The MAC intends to pursue fall athletics competition, with each campus formulating plans for resocialization that will comply with local, state and NCAA guidelines. Competition will be limited to MAC institutional members beginning no earlier than September 18, 2020 and with the goal of reaching NCAA minimums in all sports.

The MAC will continue to prioritize the health and well-being of student-athletes, coaches, campuses and communities and therefore will continue to evaluate both internal and external factors and revisit this decision if necessary.

“It is paramount that each campus prioritizes the health of its entire campus community,” said Megan Morrison, MAC Executive Director. “I am hopeful that with carefully crafted resocialization plans, athletics, as an integral piece in the co-curricular experience for so many student-athletes and campuses, may be able to happen this fall.”

Albright College recently announced its Return to Campus – Fall 2020 plan that can be reviewed here.

“Through the careful, thoughtful and diligent work of Albright’s college-wide Pandemic Planning Task Force (PPTF), which originally formed during the avian flu in 2008, Albright has developed a path forward during this pandemic that prioritizes the health of our community, maintains flexibility, and delivers an exceptional, engaging and valuable education to our students, whether the pandemic provides the opportunity for face-to-face education or not,” said Albright President Jacqueline Fetrow.  “At Albright College, we value our connected, inclusive and face-to-face community. We also know that during this pandemic, more than ever before, we must live our values of resilience and integrity by recognizing and honoring the collective importance of care for ourselves and others in our community so that we may all thrive and be well during this pandemic. Albright College is pleased with the MAC’s decision to pursue fall athletics and is committed, now and always, to ensuring the health and well-being of our community.”

Updated schedules for the fall athletic teams will be revised and released in the coming weeks.

“A great deal of thought and consideration has gone into these guidelines,” said Co-Athletic Director Janice Luck. “Student-athlete safety is our focus and we will continue to monitor this situation as it is constantly evolving. We will pursue athletics within the guidelines provided by the CDC and the NCAA.”
