Sometime between the hours of 10:30pm Tuesday, October 5th and 7:30am, Wednesday October 6th a beloved Boyertown mural was defaced. “No Place For Hate” was a beautiful mural installed years ago by the community to announce that Boyertown is changing its views to become more welcoming to all.
“The defacing of this valuable mural to our town is absolutely crushing,” says Jillian Magee, Main Street Manager at Building A Better Boyertown.
Building A Better Boyertown was in attendance of the rally at the mural’s location at 6:30pm October 6th, held by The Positive Parent Connection of Boyertown to announce the live crowdfunding campaign to repair the mural. The original installation of the mural cost almost $10,000. “It’s a big mural. We’re going to need to pay for the proper equipment to safely reach the top. The cost of supplies have also gone up due to everything covid-19 has brought into our lives” Jillian Magee explains. Building A Better Boyertown will be working in collaboration with the town art gallery, Studio B to repair the mural. Pottstown Health and Wellness Foundation as well as the Berks County Community Foundation have both generously offered to match $2,500 each, totaling in $5,000 of dollar for dollar matches. Any extra money left over after the repair of this beloved mural will go towards installing new murals throughout Boyertown with the same theme of denying hate in our community.
