Salvation Army Reading Corps to Host 2022 Advisory Board Annual Breakfast

The Salvation Army Reading Corps will host its 2022 Advisory Board Annual Breakfast on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7:15 a.m. at The Double Tree by Hilton in Reading. The Salvation Army will honor Redner’s Markets, a supermarket chain headquartered in Reading, with the Spirit of Reading Award and Mary Hart, a lifetime board member of The Salvation Army Reading Corps, with the Others Award. Santander Bank will serve as the event’s breakfast sponsor.

The Salvation Army Others Award honors an individual or organization exemplifying an extraordinary spirit of service to others. Consideration is given to those who have exhibited outstanding service on behalf of others and exceptional service benefiting The Salvation Army and the community. The Spirit of Reading Award recognizes those who personify the spirit of service, selflessness, sacrifice for the greater good and a deep and abiding desire to actively engage in the ongoing improvement of Reading and Berks County.

During this event, the Corps will celebrate its Red-Kettle Kickoff. The annual Red Kettle campaign is a charitable fundraiser hosted throughout the holiday season. All proceeds collected will benefit underserved communities in Reading and help distribute toys, food, clothing and provide social service programs to families and individuals during the holidays and throughout the year.

“The Salvation Army Reading Corp commemorates Redner’s Markets and Mary Hart for their devotion to serve others, exemplifying The Salvation Army’s mission to aid the less fortunate,” said Major Darren Mudge, corps officer of the Reading Citadel Center. “ Both recipients are excellent examples of community stewardship in the Reading community and embodiments of The Salvation Army’s duty of doing the most good.”
