Justin Couchman, Ph.D., Reading, PA, has been promoted to Professor of Psychology at Albright College.
Professor Couchman received his doctorate and Master of Arts degree from University of Buffalo and earned his bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Fredonia. He joined the Albright College faculty as an assistant professor of psychology in 2013 and was tenured and promoted to associate professor in 2017.
Couchman’s research focuses on cognitive psychology — the scientific study of how people process information and make decisions. His research includes areas on metacognition in education, human/animal interaction, self-agency, and comparative cognition. Couchman’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals that include Metacognition and Learning, Frontiers in Psychology, and Memory and Cognition. He has received wide media coverage from multiple national and international media outlets that includes NPR Academic Minute, ABC News, and The Washington Post.
At Albright, Couchman is known for his significant mentorship of students, engaging students as collaborators in his research programs as well as supporting their own nascent projects. Since Couchman earned tenure, he has supervised numerous Senior Honors Theses and completed 10 student-led Albright Creative Research Experience (ACRE) projects, which have resulted in presentations at regional and national conferences.
Courses frequently taught by Couchman include Cognitive Psychology, Animal Behavior and Cognition, and Self-awareness. He has also served on several Albright committees, including the Enrollment Management Committee, the Undergraduate Research Committee, and the Curriculum Development Committee.
