Mullen Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Albright soccer goalie Billy Mullen was named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Oct. 15.

Mullen started the week by recording a season-high 10 saves on 18 total shots in a 2-1 setback to Arcadia on Tuesday and notched his first shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over Bryn Athyn on Thursday. The Bayville, N.Y., native has appeared in six games for Albright this season and has posted a 1.96 goals against average, having allowed one goal or less in three of the six games to go along with 33 saves during that stretch.

Mullen is the first Albright men’s soccer player to earn Player of the Week honors since Vitali Zahlua was named MAC Commonwealth Offensive POTW and ECAC Division III South POTW for the week of Oct. 21-27, 2013.

The Lions are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when Stevenson comes to Shirk Stadium for a MAC Commonwealth tilt at 7 p.m.
