Albright Basketball Team Prepares for European Trip

The Albright men’s basketball team will depart to France on Wednesday, August 15 to take part in a European tour in preparation for the 2018-19 season. The NCAA allows Division III colleges the opportunity to participate in foreign tours once every three years.

“We are excited to offer this experience to our players,” said head coach Rick Ferry. “We travel internationally every four years and have been fortunate enough to previously travel to Italy, Spain, Germany/Chech Republic and Ireland/England.”

The Lions will play four games in a six-game period that will start on Friday, August 17 when they will take on Parisien All Star Team. Albright will then face Alerte Juvisy Basket Club on Saturday, August 18 before squaring off against AS Monaco Basketball on Tuesday, August 21. The Lions will then finish the trip on Wednesday, August 22 when they will face AC Golfe Juan Valiauris.

In addition to the games, the Albright coaching staff has put together an itinerary that includes tours of The Louvre, The Eiffel Tower, Palace of Versailles, a Bicycle tour of Paris, and tours of Nice and Monaco.

“This trip combines educational opportunities, team building and the international basketball experience,” Ferry said. “The entire trip is paid for thru fundraising efforts of the team.”

Fans will be able to follow along with the Lions on the trip by checking a daily blog kept by the team that will appear on the Men’s Basketball team page on the Albright Athletics website. The Lions will return home to Reading on Friday, August 24.

Albright is coming off a 20-win season and a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
