Running to Benefit Home Ownership

This fall the Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS® (R-BAR) will be hosting a 5k Run for Shelter with the intent of raising funds for two local non-profit organizations. (You can run and/or walk!) Both Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks will be the recipients of the efforts put forth. Home ownership is just SO near and dear to our REALTOR® and affiliate partners alike it’s just naturally a perfect match. EVERYONE deserves an opportunity, and these two non-profits spend hours on end helping the dream become reality for so many families.

ABOUT THE RECIPIENTS

Founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity of Berks County has completed 60 projects with the help of its donors, volunteers, staff, and Board of Directors. The organization exists to create affordable home ownership opportunities for hard working families in our community. Home ownership impacts the lives of the homeowners, their families, and the connecting communities through pride, confidence, and the safety created from helping a family into the place where they can lay their heads and feel comfortable.

Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks (NHS) has been serving our area for over 40 years! Through their extensive educational, counseling, and lending services, they have helped countless families work their way to home ownership. NHS believes that homeownership builds strong families; strong families build stable neighborhoods; and stable neighborhoods build dynamic, healthy communities. Together, Habitat for Humanity, NHS and R-BAR is working towards helping even more families reach that dream of home ownership

By choosing local organizations that already make enormous local impacts; we strive to help increase their capacity to educate, build, and provide safe homes in addition to increasing neighborhood values. This event will bring neighbors together in a positive and healthy way, raising funds so we can help to revitalize our communities, and build a strong foundation for the future for all families including single parents, widowers, handicap, veterans, and more.

Please join us on Saturday morning, October 12th to run/walk in support of safe shelter, home ownership, and increased hope for families in our area. Our 5k run/walk will also include a 1 mile fun run so everyone can participate! Check out the website www.RunforShelter5k.com for additional race details and open sponsorship options for those who choose to contribute philanthropically.

The 3.2 mile course will be fast and flat and make for an easy run or an enjoyable walk! Come with friends & family and stay healthy together while supporting local home ownership initiatives. Competitiveness is more than welcome, but not required! You can walk or run the course at your own pace.
